PROPHETS OF BAAL vs THE SPIRIT OF ELIJAH

THE SPIRIT OF ELIJAH vs THE PROPHETS OF BAAL

1 Kings 18: 1-40

Sunday, May 5, 2013, the Year of Our Lord

Pastor Carolyn Sissom

1 Kings 18:37-40:  Hear me, O Lord, hear me that this people may know that you are the Lord God, and that you have turned their heart back again.  Then the fire of the Lord fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.  When all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said, ‘the Lord, he is the God; the Lord, he is the God’.  Elijah said unto them, ‘take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape’, and they took them; and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there.”

This past week Sandra Farley and I were blessed to attend the National Day of Prayer in Washington D.C. as guests of Sara Ballenger and the Capitol Hill Prayer Partners.

Sara and her team of intercessors do an amazing job day after day, week after week, month after month praying without ceasing both nationally and internationally.

Due to Sara’s area of influence, I was able to attend the Reagan Building Dinner Program on Tuesday, April 30th.  Shirley Dobson, Chairman of the N.D.P and Dr. James Dobson as well as David Barton were on the roster of speakers.  This gathering is hosted annually by Charles W. and Judy Herbster.  Mr. Herbster spoke passionately about prayer, but one statement he made resonated with me.

“We are just one prayer away from being able to turn this nation back to God.  We don’t know who, when or where that prayer will be uttered, but it will happen.” (Paraphrased)

This is an encouragement to our Wednesday night prayer group, who faithfully executes the mandate to pray for the nation and nations week after week, month after month, for the past 9-years.

On Wednesday, we were invited to attend a noon prayer meeting with the National Prayer Committee.  Under the leadership of Vonette Bright, this group of ministers was able to pass through both congress and the senate Public Law 324 designating a specific day as a National Day of Prayer.   This was signed into law by Ronald Reagan, May 5, 1968 (25-years ago).

This gathering was 3-hours of powerful prayer by men and women with the spirit of Elijah.  I was so blessed at their genuine humility and total lack of being impressed with themselves or each other.

Wednesday evening was the N.D.P. reception hosted by Jerry and Susie Wilson with special performance by Wintley Phipps and the Annie Moses Band.  Pat Boone was the key-note speaker.

Dr. Dobson closed the meeting reading to us a press release of a statement written by Mickey Weinstein  persecuting Christians and mentioned Dr. Dobson by name.  Michael Weinstein has been appointed by President Barrack Hussein Obama to advise the Pentagon concerning religious expression.

Another prophet of Baal, Anthony Foxx, was appointed by the President on April 29, 2013 as Secretary of Transportation.  He made a statement that the N.D.P. should be called the National Day of Reason.

This is the focus of my message today:

I believe this is the voice of the prophets of Baal (the voice of the world) challenging the prophets of God.

This year there were 42,000 assemblies around the nation seeking the Lord on the National Day of Prayer.

The Elijah ministry is energized by intercessory prayer.  Just as John the Baptist came in the Spirit of Elijah, preceding the manifestation of the First Coming of the Son, so there is presently in the earth an Elijah ministry that is preparing the way of the Lord in His Second coming, which coming is both corporate (in the saints) and a personal/literal/bodily/physical coming of Christ.  This end-time prophetic company of saints is coming forth in the Spirit, and the power of Elijah?

Elijah reveals a prophetic ministry of restoration that speaks of the destruction of political and religious Babylon.

The following is an over-view of Michael Weinstein’s ranting against Christians:

“Ladies and Gentlemen, let me tell you of monsters and monstrous wrongs.  And let me tell you what these bloody monsters thrive on…Today we have incredibly well-funded gangs of fundamentalist Christian monsters who terrorize their fellow Americans by forcing their weaponized and twisted version of Christianity upon their helpless subordinates in our nation’s armed forces…those evil, fundamentalist Christian creatures and their spiritual heirs have taken refuge behind flimsy, well-worn, gauze-like euphemistic facades such as “family values” and “religious liberty”.   These bandits coagulate their stenchful substances in organizations such as the American family Association, the ultra-fundamentalist Family Research council, and the Chaplains Alliance for Religious Liberty.  The basis of their ruinous unity is the bane of human existence and progress; horrific hatred and blinding bigotry…Illustrating the extremist, militant nature of these virulently homophobic organizations’ rhetorically-charged propaganda, the SPLC list notes that “In the words of Focus on the Family founder James Dobson; the battle against gay rights is essentially a ‘second civil war’ to put control of the U. S government in the right hands means those who reject gay rights…We must vigorously support the continuing efforts to expose pathologically anti-gay Islamophobic, and rabidly intolerant agitators for what they are; die-hard enemies of the United States Constitution;  monsters, one and all.  To do any less would be to roll out a red carpet to those who would usher in a blood-drenched draconian era of persecutions, nationalistic, militarism, and superstitious theocracy…”

The document threatens to treat service members caught witnessing as enemies of the state.   ‘Leaders of all levels,” the document says, “ must avoid the actual or apparent use of the position to promote their personal religious beliefs to their subordinates or to extend preferential treatment for any religion.”  Non-compliance, the Pentagon suggests, even from ordained chaplains could result in court-martialing.”

This is the man the Pentagon heeded to create its policy on faith.

On Thursday at the close of the Prayer Caucus, Rear Admiral William D. Lee, United States Coast Guard eloquently stated that he has ministered to service members by giving them a Holy Bible and will continue to do so.

Then we have Federal Judge Edward R. Korman ordering that the morning after pill should be available for all ages.

All of this blasphemy has come forth in the week leading up to the National Day of Prayer.

While I was praying in D.C., we had just learned of this news.  I began to pray by the Spirit that the Lord would answer these prophets of Baal by fire.

The contest on Mount Carmel in 1 Kings 18 between Elijah and the prophets of Baal reveals the supernatural, end-time conflict between God’s Kingdom and the Kingdom of darkness.  Elijah was a bold spokesman, a man of prayer, an enthusiastic leader and an ardent patriot.

The Elijah ministry is energized by intercessory prayer.   Elijah is mentioned 30 times in the New Testament.   Thirty is the number of the throne of God, authority and maturity.

God’s throne is above all earthly thrones.  Kings succeed or fall according to their relationship to the Heavenly throne, and their response to the word of the Lord as it flows through the ministry of the Prophets.

The Throne of God is immovable in the midst of the changing throne (governments) of man.  The Throne of heaven is always filled, while the throne of the earth is sometimes vacant.  God’s throne is permanent and stable while the throne of man is increasingly failing.

All forms of human government without God are doomed to fail.  God, being left out of the government of men, reigns independently of them, instead of by them.  God’ causes man’s rejection of His government to work itself out into its evil consequences.  There is no remedy for the evil consequences of the rejection of God’s government, except by a return to that government.

The essential purpose of Elijah’s ministry was to demonstrate the sovereign reign of God in every realm.

In 1 Kings 18, the contest between Yahweh and Baal is resumed in the third year.  Prophetically the third or last full year toward the end of the 3-1/2 years the Elijah ministry will reveal itself to the kings of the earth in the third day.

When Elijah appeared in Matthew 17 on the Mount of Transfiguration with Moses, the Lord Jesus revealed two truths about Elijah:

  1. Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they wanted.  Likewise shall also the Son of Man suffer of them.  Then the disciples understood that he spoke unto them of John the Baptist (Matt. 17: 12-13).  Elijah had come.
  2. Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things.” (Mt. 17:11)

Elijah did come in the person of John the Baptist.

The end-time Elijah ministry is coming in both the Spirit and the power of Elijah.  The Elijah ministry is an end-time prophetic ministry (in the principle of John the Baptist) that precedes the manifestation of the many-membered Son (the overcomer), and the literal coming of Jesus Christ.

1 Kings 18:22-  “Then said Elijah unto the people, even I only, remain a prophet of the Lord; but Baal’s prophets are 450 men.  Let them give us two bullocks.   Let them choose one bullock for themselves and cut it in pieces, lay it on wood, and put no fire under.  I will dress the other bullock, lay it on wood, and put no fire under.  Call on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the Lord.  The God that answers by fire, let him be God…They called on the name of Baal from morning until noon, saying, ‘O Baal, hear us’.  But there was no voice, not any that answered, and they leaped upon the altar which they made.  Elijah mocked them to cry aloud, for if Baal is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or sleeping.

They cried aloud, cut themselves with knives and lancets.

Elijah called out “Come near unto me”.  He then repaired the altar of the Lord that was broken down.  Elijah restored the principle of prayer, worship and dedication.  The relationship with the Lord must be repaired first.  The altar is the cross of Calvary and all its principles.

Stones speak of government and divine order.  This was also part of the preparation for the fire to fall.  The stones in this passage point to the living stones of 1 Pet. 2:5.  The many stones became one altar.   The wood (humanity) was in order, as was the bullock.  The second and third of 4 barrels of water= total of 12 barrels.  These three levels of faith will dispel the universal doubt and unbelief of the people.

The altar was baptized with water, Spirit and fire.

Elijah reveals the God of Abraham (promise), Isaac (miracles) and Israel (transformation).  Then the fire of the Lord fell consuming and licking up everything.

The Lord he is God.

Under the unction of the Holy Spirit, I believe the National Day of Prayer Task Force has built an altar unto God that will destroy the prophets of Baal.

The Lord spoke to me while I was in prayer in the Cannon Building that because of the National Day of Prayer caucus and the prayers in room 121, we have been able to hold the House of Representative from the spirit of Ahab and Jezebel.

Ahab represents political Babylon.  Jezebel represents religious Babylon.  I also felt there must be an altar of prayer built in the Senate if we are to take it back for the Kingdom of God.

1 Kings 18:37:  Hear me, O Lord, hear me, that this people may know that you are the Lord God, and that you have turned their heart back again.  Then the fire of the Lord fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.”
