TUMULT OF IMPEACHMENT 2021

TUMULT OF IMPEACHMENT

Sunday, February 7, 2021, the Year of Our Lord

Pastor Carolyn Sissom

Saturday morning on awakening, I had a dream in which I was directed to preach Isaiah 22 and 32 into a tumult of chaos and confusion.

In Isaiah chapter 22, Shebna is a type of a leader guilty of bringing the full weight of the enemy down upon his country.  The oracle indicts him as part of the conspiracy of those leaders who did not seek guidance and help from God.  Shebna is described in verse 11 as “Ye” who had planned all that had happened, namely the day of tumult which had afflicted Jerusalem in 701 B.C.

I am reminded the Lord spoke to me that January 6, 2021, was a Day of Ignominy (shame).  This week, as we face the second fraudulent impeachment of Donald J. Trump, I believe the charge against Shebna by God is also charged to the leaders of the Socialists/Democrat Party who conspired the day of trouble, now written in Heaven as the Day of Ignominy.

Therefore, this message though fulfilled in history is applicable today as we see government leaders aligning with governments conspiring against the nations, the U.S.A., and Israel.

Isa. 22:1-4: …What troubles you now, that you are wholly gone up to the housetops?  A town full of commotion.  O city of tumult and revelry?  Your slain were not killed by the sword, nor did they die in battle.  All your leaders have fled together.  They have been captured without using the bow.  All you who were caught were taken prisoner together having fled while the enemy was still far away.  Therefore, I said ‘turn away from me; let me weep bitterly.  Do not try to console me over the destruction of my people.’

The people were so alarmed about the invading armies outside the city that they fled to the housetops. The people were so intimidated by the enemy that they were defeated before they were attacked.

Isa. 22: 5-7:  For it is a day of trouble, and of treading down, and of perplexity by the Lord God of hosts in the valley of vision, breaking down the walls, and of crying to the mountains.  And Elam (Iran) bare the quiver with chariots of men and horsemen, and Kir (of Media) uncovered the shield…

The Medes and Persians were with Assyria in these invasions of Palestine and surrounding countries. This indicates the greatness of the armies that were with the Assyrians and shows why the case of Judah seemed utterly hopeless---and such it was, without God.  America, as the Socialists Democrats have now taken over our government, we the people are helpless unless God moves for us.

Through Isaiah, the Lord called for repentance, fasting and prayer, but instead the people went into revelry and pleasure even in view of the short time they thought they would have on earth.  God assured them that they would continue this way until death.  Let all of us be willing to repent and humble ourselves before the Lord that our “iniquity” will be purged from us and we will not carry it to our grave.

Isa. 22: 12-14: In that day did the Lord God of hosts call to weeping, and to mourning, and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth.  Yet there was joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine; let us eat and drink; for tomorrow we shall die.  It was revealed in my ears by the Lord of hosts, surely this iniquity shall not be purged from you until you die, says the Lord God of Hosts.

We see this when storms come in.  People will have hurricane parties instead of prayer meetings (1 Co. 15:32).  Paul referred to this.  Let us eat and drink for tomorrow we shall die.”  This is the attitude of the ungodly who have no hope of a life to come.

Another oracle follows, denouncing the high official of Judah, the steward Shebna.   We know from chapter 36:3 that Shebna was one of the chief culprits in persuading Hezekiah to revolt against Assyria.   The only explicit charge made against Shebna in this chapter is that he planned for himself an ostentatious grave and gave advice to Hezekiah contrary to God’s revealed will.

(I have a sermon on “The Spirit of Shebna”, dated 2/7/11, posted on the website, www.eastgateministries.com)

22: 15; 17-20:  Thus, says the Lord God of hosts, Come, go to this treasurer, to Shebna, who is in charge of the royal household.  What right do you have here?  And whom do you have here?  (Vs.17) Behold, the Lord is about to hurl you headlong, O man, and He is about to grasp you firmly, and roll you tightly like a ball, to be cast into a vast country; There you will die, and there your splendid chariots will be, you shame of your master’s house.  And I will depose you from your office, and I will pull you down from your station (N.M.S).

Shebna is called “this treasurer” being entrusted with the management of the revenue; and he is likewise said to be over the royal household.  The Jews say, “He kept up a traitorous correspondence with the king of Assyria, and was in treaty with him to deliver the city into his hands.”

22:16: What right do you have here and who do you have here?  What a mighty noise and tumult you make!  Are you not mean and obscure that comes we know not from where?  What is the meaning of this that you have built yourself a fine house?

22:17:  Indeed, the LORD will throw you away violently,
O mighty man,
And will surely seize you.

High places are slippery places.  Shebna thinks himself immovably fixed in his office.  But he shall be removed, cut down, and fall.  He will not only be driven from his office, but he will be driven from the country.

We have a Shebna spirit in our government who is conspiring to overthrow governments and to create financial havoc in the world monetary systems. We have a Shebna in our government who has made traitorous covenants with the enemies of the U.S.A., namely China and Iran in league with the Mexican cartels.

There is a conspiracy to set up a One World Order.  In order to do that, the American economy and military have to be weakened to the place the people will surrender in fear to a bail out by the World Bank, of which the U.S. has supported with tax paper money since its inception.

In our Lord “there is no variableness, neither shadow of turning (James 1:17).  Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever (Heb 13:8).    Just as the Lord dealt with Shebna, so will he deal with those who are conspiring against our government and governments of nations today but most emphatically shaking their fist at the government of the Kingdom of God.

The Lord’s dealing with wickedness is the same today as it was in the days of Shebna.  Isaiah’s oracles over the sins of the nations carry the same power today as it did then.  The leaders, who in their arrogance, are not seeking guidance and help from the Lord will be removed from their office “in that day”.

Shebna, a great officer at court is the proud materialist usurper and a type of the spirit of antichrist.  He was thrust out of office (like Judas) and was replaced by the faithful Eliakim, a type of Christ, both head and body.  Shebna is a type of a leader guilty of bringing the full weight of the enemy down upon their country.

Eliakim’s replacement of Shebna is a story told often throughout the Holy Bible:  Ishmael and Isaac, Esau and Jacob, Saul and David, Esther and Vashti, Samuel and Eli, Paul and Saul, etc.  God anoints the one he raises up.

In the 21st Century, we know there is a great darkness of conspiracy.  When I preached this chapter in 2014, we were dealing with the Assyrians.  Today, it is Communist China from without and Socialists Democrats from within.

22:18: He (God) will surely violently turn and toss you (Shebna) like a ball into a large country; there shall you die, and there the chariots of your glory shall be the shame of your Lord’s house.  I will drive you from your station, and from your state shall God pull you down.

In this chapter, Isaiah speaks correction to Jerusalem for their indifference to the prophet’s messages.  We the church have stood with the prophets during this past year of great tumult in our nation.

22:20: Then it will come about in that day, that I will summon my servant E-lia-kim the son of Hilkiah and I will clothe him with your tunic, and tie your sash securely about him.  I will entrust him with your authority.  He will become a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah. Then I will set the key of the house of David on his shoulder.  When he opens no one will shut.  When he shuts no one will open.  And I will drive him like a peg in a firm place, and he will become a throne of glory to his father’s house.”

“Eliakim” means “God will raise up; God sets up; whom God has established; God of raising, in judgment; raised of God.”

King David was given the “key to the throne”.  Eliakim is the only other person mentioned in scripture with this blessing on his life except the disciples were given the Keys to the Kingdom.  Here Eliakim is a type of the Lord Jesus and the Overcomer.  Rev. 3:7: And to the angel of the Church in Philadelphia write:  These things says he that is holy, he that is true, he that has the key of David, he that opens and no man closes, and closes and no man opens.

10-fold Exaltation of Eliakim:

  1. I will call him
  2. I will clothe him.
  3. I will strengthen him.
  4. I will commit the government to him.
  5. He shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah.
  6. I will give him the key of David.
  7. He shall have authority to open and shut and none shall hinder him.
  8. I will make him permanent.
  9. He shall be exalted to his father’s house.
  10. He shall have all the glory of his father’s house.

22: 24-25: They will hang on him all the glory of his father’s house, offspring and issue, all the least of vessels, from bowls to all the jars.  In that day, declares the Lord of hosts, the peg driven in a firm place be removed; it will even break off and fall, and the load hanging on it) will be cut off for the Lord has spoken.

Chapter 32 is the Good News.  The Righteous King

In verses 1-8, King Jesus’ earthly rule is described.  Isaiah describes the reign of our King in the establishment of order, creation; and of refuge and refreshment for all in distress.

However, this is the standard for all rulers who reign in righteousness.  If they prove willing to live up to this responsibility, they would provide every benefit to their citizens and at the same time restrain evil in society.

Public servants should do their duty.  This is the standard of accountability to all civil servants as well as servants in the Kingdom of God.  Ministers must first expound and preach the Gospel of the Kingdom of God; only then will the civil magistrates execute it judiciously and faithfully.  Only then will the bad be made good and the good be made better.

True nobility will be recognized.

Isa. 32: 1-4: Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in judgment.  A man shall be as a hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.  The eyes of them that see shall not be dim, and the ears of them that hear shall hearken.  The heart also of the rash shall understand knowledge, and the tongue of the stammerers shall be ready to speak plainly.”

The meaning is dualistic not only of a righteous king, but describing the righteous state of the Kingdom of God.

The blessings of serving the King of Kings in his Kingdom are without number.  Isaiah here lists ten of those blessings:

  1. He shall be as a hiding place from the wind.
  2. As a cover from the tempest.
  3. As rivers in a dry place.
  4. As the shadow of a great rock in a weary (or hot desert) land.
  5. He shall heal the eyes of the blind.
  6. Open the ears of the deaf.
  7. Give knowledge to the hasty.
  8. Heal the stammerers.
  9. Strip the vile (impious) person of his honor and position.
  10. Strip the churl (miserly) of his standing.

32: 5-8: The vile person shall be no more called liberal, nor the churl said to be bountiful.  For the vile person will speak villainy, and his heart will work iniquity, to practice hypocrisy, and to utter error against the Lord, to make empty the soul of the hungry, and he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.   The instruments also of the churl are evil: he devises wicked devices to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the needy speak right.

In the political culture of the 21st century, ungodly politicians are called liberals according to Christian moral values.   The liberals have now evolved into the Socialists wing of the Democrat party.  The Socialists/Democrats are now the ruling party in the U.S. government.

The time of disaster for Judah, though long lasting, was not to be permanent.  It is God’s promise that eventually conditions of utter peace and wonderful prosperity shall bless His people, and even the animal kingdom will benefit.

For many days and years, Israel will be troubled and the land will be made waste---until the Spirit be poured out from on high.  Then the wilderness shall be fruitful.

There is still the threat of daily bombings of the terrorists of those who hate Israel, but the people of the 21st century in Israel are blessed with security and prosperity.

Isaiah 32: 15-18: Until the Spirit is poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness be a fruitful field, and the fruitful field be counted for a forest.  Then judgment shall dwell in the wilderness, and righteousness remains in the fruitful field.  The work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance forever.  My people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places.

The Holy Spirit was poured out in Jerusalem at Pentecost and has covered the whole earth with the Glory of God.  All of us who have been baptized in the Holy Spirit know this joy unspeakable and full of glory.

As is often in Isaiah, the most prominent theme is neither peace nor prosperity, but righteousness.  The Kingdom of God is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.  It is only through the Baptism of the Holy Spirit that we are able to enter into this blessed Kingdom of our King.  Through Jesus’ Blood we are saved, and we are “born again” into the Kingdom through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.   Jesus Christ is the King of Righteousness and the King of Peace.  The Kingdom of the Messiah was ushered in and set up by the pouring out of the Spirit.   Once we have received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, our desire is to live and move with our King in His righteousness, peace and the ultimate result will be great joy.

Inward peace follows upon the indwelling of righteousness.  The effect of it is quietness and assurance forever, that is, a holy serenity and security of mind.  Those are the quiet and peaceable lives that are spent in all godliness and honesty.  In the doing of our duty, we shall find true happiness.  Though the work of righteousness may be toilsome and expose us to contempt, yet it is peace.   Those who live in this “state-of-being” are bold and have no fear.

No human king will or can he inaugurate this blessed state of being.  The agent of blessing is through the life, death, resurrection, ascension of Jesus and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost and perpetually to all who will receive Him.

In the Old Testament, the operation of the Spirit was chiefly to empower leaders chosen by the Lord, and to inspire prophetic spokesman.  There are numerous times in the Old Testament where men of God were filled with the Spirit as well as had the Spirit outpoured.  We have the Holy Spirit indwelling.

Here, Isaiah is prophesying and revealing the great blessing of our time when the Holy Spirit is poured out upon all God’s people.

Verse 20 speaks of ministry and the many streams and waters of humanity as well as the waters and streams of the Body of Christ.  These are those who send forth (ministries-apostles-evangelists-prophets-pastors-teachers-intercessors).  To send forth the feet of the “ox” (the burden-bearer, and the one who treads out the Word of God); the ass speaks of the husbandmen, who went forth to sow their seed (Matt. 13:3) beside all waters.
