THE SEVEN SEPARATIONS OF ABRAHAM

THE SEVEN SEPARATIONS OF ABRAHAM

July 26, 2005

Preached by:  Carolyn Sissom

There are many important Scriptures concerning Abraham.  He was the friend of God.  Chapters 11-22 is the account of his mistakes as well as his journey of Faith that placed him in the Hebrews Hall of Fame.

Hebrews 11:8-10:  By faith Abraham when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.  By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same prose: for he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and make is God.”

Abraham made seven critical decisions in his lifetime.  This reveals a pattern of the FAITH-WALK for every believer.  After the 7th separation (from Isaac) in Genesis 22, God revealed Himself to Abraham as JEHOVAH-JIRAH (“Jehovah will see and PROVIDE’).  THERE IS A COMPLETE UNLIMITED PROVISION WITHOUT ANY FURTHER REQUIREMENTS AWAITING THOSE WHO MAKE THE SEVEN SEPARATION OF ABRAHAM.

Separation brings Revelation which leads to Worship.  Abraham would make a separation, and then Jehovah would speak to him, prompting Abraham to build an altar and worship.

The seed of Abraham is in three dimensions:

  1. Dust (Gen. 13:16)
  2. Sand.  (Gen. 22:17)
  3. Stars (Gen. 15.5; 22:17)

Our inheritance is not mansions, pearly gates or golden streets.  The inheritance of the believer is incorruptible. “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises:  that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust” (1 Peter 2:4)

“To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you.  Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”

Gold is corruptible and is that which perishes.  How can that which is of the corruptible realm have anything to do with an incorruptible inheritance?

Simply stated, to Abraham and his SEED (CHRIST) were the promises made.  The Lord Jesus was appointed HEIR OF ALL THINGS (Heb. 1:1-3) and we are JOINT HEIRS WITH HIM (Rom. 8:17) .  The covenantal promise was fulfilled in Jesus and we share the benefits of His finished work.  All the Covenants of the Bible focus in and find their fulfillment in Jesus, for He is the Heir and the Beneficiary of all things.  Concerning the Abraham Covenant, let us mention the promises made to Jesus and His brethren. (Gen. 12: 1-3)

  1. I will make of thee a great nation.
  2. I will bless thee.
  3. I will make your name great.
  4. You shall be a blessing.
  5. I will bless them that bless you.
  6. I will curse them that curse you.
  7. In you shall all the families of the earth be blessed.
  8. In you all nations will be blessed.
  9. I will give this land to your seed forever.
  10.  I will make your seed as the dust in number
  11.  I am your shield
  12. I am your great reward.
  13. Your own son shall be your heir
  14. Your seed shall be as the stars in number
  15. Your seed shall be strangrs and oppressed 400 years
  16. I will punish their oppressors
  17.  I will bring your seed out of  bondage
  18. I will bless your seed with gret material substance
  19. You will die in peace
  20. You will be buried in a good old age
  21.  I will make an eternal covenant with you
  22. I will multiply you exceedingly
  23.  You will be the father of many nations
  24. I will make you exceedingly fruitful
  25. Kings shall come from you.

We see in the Book of Genesis the lineage of the Promised Redeemer.

  1. Through the Human Race – The Seed of the Woman (Gen. 3:15)
  2. Through One Nation -The Covenant Nation of Israel (Gen. 12: 1-3)
  3. Through One Tribe – The Tribe of Judah (Gen. 49:10)

Genesis and Revelation are the two Bible books most attacked by Satan.  Genesis predicts Satan’s destiny (3:15) and Revelation seals it (20:10)

Genesis begins with God and ends with a coffin, symbolizing man’s fall.

The story of Abraham is the story of the Covenant Nation.

The covenant to Abraham  is to affect the world.

  1. For the promise, that he should be HEIR OF THE WORLD (KOSMOS). WAS NOT TO Abraham, or to His seed through the law, but through the righteousness of FAITH (Rom 4:13)
  2. “Ask of me and I shall give thee the Heathen for thine inheritance and the uttermost parts of the earth for your possession. (Ps. 2:8)
  3. Blessed are the meek, for they shall INHERIT THE earth5:5)
  4. “And has made us unto our God Kings and Priest: and we shall reign on the earth.”  (Rev. 5:10
  5. “Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God to confirm the promises made unto the fathers.” (Rom 15:8)
  6. The fathers did not receive the promise.  But a NEW NATION IN Christ will arise and possess the land (Matt. 21: 42-43
  7. Our inheritance is all things.  Simply stated, like the Levites of old, we inherit Him and all that He is and all that he has.  The Lord is our possession and we are His.

What then are these seven separations that if we will walk as Abraham did will bring us into this great inheritance.

  1. Country.  – Immediate local and surroundings.  All that is familiar and comfortable.  That which restricts you and prevents you from walking with God.  A land that is governed by moon-worshipers (the powers of darkness).  Teachings and traditions that say you can go so far but no further.
  2. Kindred – Genesis 12:1 This deals with our natural and spiritual family.  Our father’s house is a strong tie.  The land of our nativity (the church, system, or doctrine under which we were born) keeps many from pleasing god. Family members want you to stand in Ur of the Chaldees.

Ur of Chaldees was settled by the descendants of Ham.  It was a notable place of Moon-worship and idolatry.  It was an advanced culture.  I was a Sumerian city with an elaborate and  advanced system of writing, math, astronomical and astrology, a mature comprehensive religious organization.  In short a very cultured

 society.

Abraham grew up in the midst of idolatry.    God dealt with Abraham in Sovereign Grace.  There was nothing whatever in the object of His choice which commended him to God.  There was nothing in Abraham that merited God’s esteem.  The call of Abram shows us the starting-point of the life of faith.

It will take another study to cover the seven Revelations that led to Worship.

After he left the land of the Ur of Chaldees he pitched his tent between Bethel (house of God on the West and Ai ( a heap of ruins) on the East.  As he journeyed toward the promise, before him lay the house of God.  Behind him lay the old life in Ur, a heap of ruins.  Here he dwelt in a tent (the pilgrim life) and the Altar (dependency on and worship of God).

  1. Egypt – (Genesis 13:1) God will intercede for a liar (Gen. 12: 10-21).  In thanks giving we leave Egypt, which speaks to us of the World and all that is in it.  The lust of the flesh, the lust of the yes, and the pride of life.  The place of bondage and servitude/
  2. Lot.- (Gen 13:11)  See the principle of Lot given below.  Lot speaks of the carnal ones who walk with us.  They want God’s presents but not His presence.  They are along for the ride, desiring only the benefits but despising the responsibility.  They want the blessing but not the responsibility of the birthright.  They are a monkey on your back, Abraham.
  3. A Desire to get wealth –(Gen 14:21-24)  This is most critical.  God will never bestow An unlimited provision upon those who love money, (1Tim 6:10).  tHE MAN OF FAITH CANNOT BE BOUGHT.  He is under exclusive contract to Jehovah.  As the bondslave of Christ, he will not become the possession of another.
  4. ishmael (Genesis 17:18; 21: 9-14)  This speaks to us of the product of the flesh.  a man-made attempt to bring forth  the promise of god.  the old nature is a wild ass nature, the fruit of human wisdom and human strength.  ishamel was product of sarah’s head and abraham’s loins.  ishmael was a good idea.  he is the 6th separation of abraham’s walk, and six the number of man.
  5. isaac – (Gen. 22:1-14) This is the ultimate test.  the promise had become a reality. Abrham had held it in his arms and watched it grow.  Now god demands that which he loves.  do we love the promise of God more than the God of the promise?  This worhsip in its purest sense.

Then what of our inheritance?

1.We have been made worthy and fit to partake of it (Col. 1:12-13)

2It is in Light ( in the Word). (Col. 1: 12-13

3.It is in the Heavenlies (realm of the Spirit) Eph. 1:3;2:1-6)

  1. It is to be revealed in the last time.
  2. It is the divine nature made available through the promises.
  3. it is revealed through the five-fold ministry, especially the apostle and the prophet
  4. the pentecostal esperience of the holy ghost baptims is the key and the door to your possessions, for it is the earnest (pledge, foretaste, down payment, guarantee) of our full inheritance.  The ernest is fo the same substance and nature as the fullness.
