HE IS RISEN! GO YOU INTO THE ENTIRE WORLD, AND PREACH THE GOSPEL

(Mark 16: 6-20)

Preached by:  Pastor Carolyn Sissom

Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010

Mark 16:6 “And he (the angel of the Lord-Mt. 28:2) says to them, be not afraid:  You seek Jesus of Nazareth which was crucified:  He is risen!:  He is not here… (Vs15) And He (Jesus) said to them, Go you into the entire world, and preach the gospel to every creature.  He that believes and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believes not shall be damned.”

Luke 24: 32-53:  And they (the disciples) said to one another, did not our heart burn within us, while He talked with us by the way and while He opened to us the scriptures?(This would be the Old Testament scriptures)...(Vs. 36) And as they thus spoke, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them, and say to them, Peace be to you. But they were terrified and afraid.  They supposed that they had seen a spirit…(Vs 44) And he (Jesus) said to them, These are the words which I spoke to you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning Me.”

At the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the church was sent and commissioned by the Lord to preach the gospel (Mark 16: 15-20).  In obedience they preached the gospel of the Kingdom of God. (Acts 1: 1-3):  (2b-3) He through the Holy Ghost had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen. To whom he also showed Himself alive after His passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, speaking of the things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.

There is only one gospel.  Paul pronounced a curse on anyone who preaches another Gospel than of the apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teacher of the book of Acts and the resulting epistles. (Gal. 1: 6-12)

To preach the Gospel of the Kingdom is to persuade men “concerning Jesus” (the King of the Kingdom).  It is a message that proclaims Jesus to be Lord.

The message of the Gospel of the Kingdom is one that will produce a people in the earth that are heavenly in culture (Phil. 1:27).  We have a culture war going on in the United States of America between the Kingdom of God and the kingdom of darkness.

There are two Kingdoms in the universe.  Those who know Jesus of Nazareth, the risen Savior as Lord have been brought out of their darkness into his marvelous Light.  We have passed from death into life.  We have exchanged our spirits of heaviness for garments of praise. We understand that the night is far spent and the Day is at hand.  We serve God and not mammon.

The kingdom of darkness is ignorance, death, unrighteousness; iniquity; lawlessness, turmoil, unrest, anxiety, sorrow and mourning.  The Kingdom of God is Light, Understanding, Life, Righteousness, Peace and Joy.

The motive of the Kingdom of God is love. (11 Cor. 5;14).  Just as the human heart receives and releases blood, so the heartbeat of the Kingdom is to receive and then release the life of Jesus. (Lev. 17:11)

The Church is an instrument of the Kingdom.  The invisible (universal church) is a mystical union in a spiritual Body for the habitation of the Spirit, with Jesus Christ as head.  It is not spoken of in a visible sense, but it is an invisible union of all true believers in Jesus Christ.  This is seen especially in the letter to the Ephesians, wherein Jesus is presented and revealed as Head of the:

  1. Church (Eph. 1:22)
  2. Temple (Eph. 2:21)
  3. Family (Eph. 3:15)
  4. Body (Eph. 4:16)
  5. Wife (Eph. 5:23)
  6. Army (Eph. 6:11)

The visible church (local Church) is groups of believers in a given locality gathered unto the Lord Jesus Christ under the oversight of the ministry gifts, established and rooted in the principles of the Gospel of Christ, King of the Kingdom.

The Kingdom is a present reality for us today.  The Kingdom is not fleshly; that is, it is not based upon the natural senses.  We in this Kingdom are not moved by what we see or hear in the realm of circumstance.

The Kingdom comes not with observation. (Lk. 17:20).  The word “observation” means in such a manner that it can be watched with the eyes; in a visible manner.

The Kingdom is within you.  (Luke 17:21).  The Kingdom is entered by birth. (Jn. 3:3) The Kingdom is at hand; that is, it is within reach.  The mountain of the Old Testament= keep away; the mountain of the New Testament= Come.  God has and is extending His Kingdom to men everywhere today!

The Kingdom is in the Holy Ghost and is marked by righteousness, peace and joy. (Rom. 14:17).  It is the abundant life of John 10:10:  The thief comes not, but to steal, and to kill, and to destroy:  I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

The Kingdom of God takes priority.  Matthew 6:33:  Seek you first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you.”

The Kingdom is a Gift; that is; it is ministered to us abundantly through the mercy, love, and grace of God.  Luke 12: 31-32:  “Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the Kingdom.”

The Kingdom is marked by violence. Luke 16:16:  The law and the prophets were until John; since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presses into it.  Matt. 11:12:  And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.  And if you will receive it, this is Elijah, which was to come.” (Here Jesus is comparing John’s ministry to that of Elijah).

The Kingdom demands perseverance.  Luke 9:62:  And Jesus said to him, No man having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”

The Kingdom is marked by Power. (1 Cor. 4:20).  Matthew 28:18: and Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, all power is given to me in Heaven and in earth.  Go you, therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.   Acts 1:8: You shall receive power, after the Holy Ghost has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judae’a and in Samaria, and to the uttermost part of the earth.”

The Kingdom is supernatural; that is, it goes above and beyond the realm of the natural…the strength and wisdom of man…the ability and intellect of man.  Mark 16: 15-20:  And these signs shall follow them that believe; in my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues.  They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”  This is a supernatural gospel being ministered by a supernatural people.  We miss the commission of preaching of the Gospel when we try to water it down to please the natural intellect.

The Kingdom involves persecution, tribulation and affliction. Acts 14:22: “Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith that we must through much tribulation enter into the Kingdom of God.”  The half-hearted will not fight the good fight of faith.  This walk is for overcomers who are victorious in Jesus.

The Kingdom is stable and cannot be moved. Heb. 12:26-29; Acts 20:24:  “but none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear to myself; so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry; which I have received of the Lord Jesus to testify the gospel of the grace of God.”  Heb. 12:28:  “We received a kingdom which cannot be moved; let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and Godly fear.”  We are watching that everything else but this Kingdom is now falling.  Politicians can’t stop it.  Global Warming people can’t stop it.  Money can’t stop it.  However, we are citizens of a Kingdom that cannot be shaken.

This Kingdom is an everlasting Kingdom (11 Pet. 1:11, Lk. 1:31-33).  This Kingdom is without limitation.  Luke 1: 33:  And He (Jesus) shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of His kingdom there shall be no end.”

This Kingdom is to be taken to the whole earth.  I believe the internet streaming angels are the Lord’s instruments to take the gospel to the whole.

We know that these are epochal days.  We have been brought into the Kingdom for such a time as this.  Acts 1:7:  It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father has put in His own power.”  The world systems, financial, political, military, weather and religious are cracking at the seams.  The Voice (Word) of the Lord is shaking heaven and earth.  Only that which is part of this unshakeable Kingdom cannot and will not be moved.  This Kingdom is going to stand!  The next world government is the Kingdom of God.  That is why the spirit of anti-christ has set as his agenda one-world-government.  Like Noah of old, there will be a people who will inherit the earth.   Matt. 24: 37-41:  Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord has made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?”

As I was preparing this, I was struck by Jesus’ words after his resurrection when he was standing by the seashore and the disciples had been fishing all night without a catch.  Jesus said, “Children have you any meat?  They answered him No.  And he said to them, cast the net on the right side of the ship, and you shall find.  They cast their net and were able to draw a multitude of fish (153 in all)… (Vs. 13) Jesus then comes,  and takes bread, and gives them, and fish likewise.  Jesus Christ is the revelation knowledge of where to cast the net, the power to bring in the catch, and he is the source of the bread and the meat.  The faithful and wise servant will be seeking Him and there will be meat in due season.

The ministry of the Kingdom and the power of the Gospel of His Christ will be realized and flow from the church when we stop committing the abomination of condemnation! The church is a garden enclosed, a spring shut up, and a fountain that is sealed. (Song. 4:12-16)

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus.  Whenever we learn to take the Word of God and cast down the accuser of our brethren, then shall be released from us this great ministry of the Kingdom…of the christ from within…of the prophet within who produces righteousness.  Of the Priest within that produces peace and of the King within that produces joy.   Then shall come salvation, and strength, and the Kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ!  When we no longer impute the trespasses of other men unto them (11 Cor. 5:27-21), we will move into the magnitude of the anointing of the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

How dare we try to preach it, if we are not preaching the pure Gospel as commissioned by Jesus after His resurrection?  We are to preach a gospel of reconciliation.  Jesus did not tolerate sin, but he never condemned the sinner.  He came not into the world to condemn the world, but rather to deliver it!  We are not sent by the Lord to condemn the world, but rather to deliver it by the ministry of the Gospel of the Kingdom.   The power to deliver it will only be found in the presence of the Lord.

We do not need to wait until some future prophetic period to enjoy the blessings and powers of the Kingdom of God.  As we are in Christ, and live in Him, we overcome satan and the dominion of darkness through the superior powers of the Kingdom of God into which we have entered by the new birth.

The greatest proof of Kingdom power is the victorious, overcoming lifestyle of the Christian in faith and obedience.

There will be purity in the life of a believer in spite of the wickedness which surrounds him.  Peace of mind and heart in the midst of confusion and restlessness.  Able to overcome temptation.  A willingness to be a sacrifice of love unto others.  This will cost us.  Having a sound mind flowing with truth and not tradition.  The human spirit under the government of the Holy Spirit.  A home or local church under the Headship of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Father has given all authority in his Kingdom to Jesus. (Mt. 28:18:  “And Jesus came and spoke to them saying, All power is given to Me in heaven and in earth. “  The Lord himself delegates His authority to the five-fold ministry to govern His church.

There are five ways to ruin a child (or saint):

  1. Let him rule you rather than you governing him.
  2. Let him have his own way over the revealed way of the Lord.
  3. Give him whatever he wants.
  4. Permit disrespect toward you and others.
  5. Fail to lovingly discipline improper behavior.
Jesus gave twelve parables in the Book of Matthew on the Kingdom of God, i.e. Kingdom of Heaven.  This is the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Kingdom of God is the extension of God’s rule or dominion in the earth and the universe.  It is the territory or area over which King Jesus rules and reigns. It is wherever Jesus of Nazareth is Lord and King.  It is a theocracy—a government that is God-ruled; in other words, a divine government.

Today we will have communion.  Next Sunday, I will start teaching on the Sermon On the Mount.  Let us be faithful to preach the Gospel of the kingdom.

Scripture from K.J.V. bibliography:  Sermon on the Mount by:  Dr. Kelley Varner

PostScript for future reference:

The Gospel of Jesus Christ gives us twelve ways to enter the abundant overcoming life of the Kingdom of God.

  1. By being poor in Spirit.
  2. By being born of the spirit and thus receive a new nature.
  3. By being righteous (part of the divine nature).
  4. By seeking.
  5. By being childlike (the nature of a lamb).  This does not mean that we go around acting like a child or being childish.
  6. By being instructed.
  7. By doing the will of the Father.
  8. By being violent in the will of the Father.
  9. By purging out the offenses (traps, snares, hindrances).
  10. By pressing (walking alone at times)
  11. By tribulation (loneliness, misunderstanding, rejection, crucifixion).
  12. By adding to your Faith until you reach the sum (End of your Faith).
