Romans 9:11:  For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that called.”

ELECTION:  Strong’s G1589:

1.  “The act of picking out, choosing:

(a)   Of the act of God’s free will by which before the foundation of the world he decreed his blessing to certain persons.

(b)   The decree made from choice by which he determined to bless certain persons through Christ by grace alone.

  1. A thing or person chosen

(a)   of persons; God’s elect

CALLED:  Strong’s #G2753:

  1. To call

(a)   to call aloud, utter in a loud voice

(b)   to invite

(2) To call, to name by name

(a) To give a name

1) To receive the name

© To salute one by name

I heard the voice of the Lord say that He had “called” Rick Perry to run for President of the United States.

2 Peter 1:10: “Wherefore the rather brethren give diligence to make your calling and elections sure for if you do these things, you shall never fall.”

1 Th. 1:4: “Knowing brethren your election of God.

1 Samuel 16:13:  Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him (David) in the midst of his brothers;  and the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon David from that day forward.  And Samuel arose and went to Ramah.  Now the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord terrorized him.”

David was anointed to be King of Israel.  However, before he would sit on the throne, there were many battles to fight.  Patience and dependence on God are necessary for the fulfillment of His promises, shown by David’s preparation to be the king from humiliation (1 Samuel) to exaltation (11 Samuel).

Obedience will bring blessing for those in Covenant relationship with God, shown by the first 20-years of David’s reign.  Sometimes, pardoned sin is still punished, shown by the last 20 years of David’s reign.

Like Saul, David also made three major mistakes.  He remained a man after God’s heart in that he knew how to repent (Psa. 51).  His three failures were:

1.      He resorted to the Philistines (1 Sam. 21 & 27)

2.      He was an adulterer and then a murderer. (1 Sam. 11)

3.      He numbered the people. (11 Sam. 24; 1 Chron. 21)

“Human failure may make possible usefulness for God impossible without such failure.

Man’s opportunity is created by the attitude of God toward him.  Man may become what God offers to him.

God’s opportunity is created by man’s attitude toward him.  God is to a man what a man is to God.

God’s measure of a man is based on the attitude of his soul toward Him, not by the failings of the moment; by what a man wills to be, rather than by what he seems to be.

No matter how spiritual as man may be, he will fall if he gets his eyes off God.

True repentance will cause God in His grace to forgive any sin. (Psa. 51).

As with Samuel, the principle of prayer was a key to David’s life and ministry.  He was ever “Before the Lord.”

Kim Clement gave a prophecy March 5, 2010 in Humble, TX.

I am quoting in part…”The authority has been given to you.  The Spirit of the Lord says, I have given to you Presidents from this State.  I have given unto you the cream of the crop from this State and I have risen up Presidents who would reign with righteousness.  God says, there’s no reign in this present Administration, there is pain.

But it is your duty to pray for your President.  For God says, in so doing I will bring about a change in the summer of this year.  Now these are the plans of the Lord.  He says there will be many, many changes in the high office.  As the prophet stands in Texas once again, I will raise up a President from this State once again.  The Spirit of God says, I will rise up a President from this State.  A President who has been informed, a President that has been enlightened, a President who has had a taste of the good things that are to come in the Kingdom of God, a President who will pray silently every night and every morning just like Daniel did.  I speak the name Daniel to you.

For God says a President shall come to you from this State again and this President shall rule with righteousness, he shall not be one who will stand back.  God says, your enemies will be subdued in a way, in a fashion as never before.  For this one will sing the song, Amazing Grace.  This one will say, the Lord is His Name.  This one will not be afraid.  Once again God says, Texas I thank you for what you have given to Me.  I will take again from your hands and I will bless this nation and the Nations of the earth with a President that shall rule and be Spirit filled and shall love the Lord God Most High says the Lord.

God said the American dollar will never crash---they’ve tried it once, they tried it twice, they’ve tried it a third time now and their attempt is to bring down the American dollar, the U.S. dollar.  The spirit of the Lord says it shall not take place.  In fact, God says that within a few years it will be the strongest that it has ever been before because this is My Nation and this Nation shall call My Name only.” (End of quote from Kim Clement)

Even after the anointing had left King Saul, David continued to pray for him and spared him even though Saul tried to kill David. 1 Samuel 24:6:  Far be it from me because of the Lord that I should do this thing to my lord, the Lord’s anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, since he is the Lord’s anointed.

Saul lost the Kingdom for the same sin that is rampant over our nation in the year 2011.

1 Samuel 24:9:  Why do you listen to the words of men?”  Saul blamed the people.  .  15:23:  Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, he has also rejected you from being king.”

15: 24-35:  I have sinned…I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.”  Saul was sorry because he got caught!

!5:28-29: Samuel was not moved by Saul’s pleas or violence as he tore the prophet’s mantle. “The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today, and has given it  to “your neighbor” (David) who is better than you. Also the Glory of Israel will not lie or change His mind, for He is not a man that He should change His mind.”

David is a type of the New Order.  He represents spiritual leadership in a spiritual government.  The Lord will again raise up Godly leadership in the U.S.A., when the people cry out unto the Lord for a righteous government.  David was the 8th son (New day, new order).  He loved the sheep (Jn. 10).  He was chosen and anointed in the midst.  He was submissive in wisdom.  He was victorious in battle.  He was persecuted.  He had a testimony of value.  He was humble and trusting.  He turned threats into glory.  He was betrayed by those whom he delivered.  He was delivered from his own folly.

David is seen to be the man after God’s own heart, not because he was without sin, but because he had a deep aspiration to conform his will to the will of God, notwithstanding his failings.  Even when sorely chastened by God, David ever acknowledged the sovereignty and justice of God.

David had three anointings:

1.      1 Sam 16:13 – With this first anointing, he killed a bear, a lion, and a giant (while Saul was still ruling).

2.      11 Sam 2:4 – With the second anointing, Judah made him King at Hebron (Praise).

3.      11 Sam 5:3: - With the third anointing, all of Israel crowned him King in Hebron.  David ruled all things.  This took place when he was 30 (the number of maturity, authority, full stature, the throne).  This was oil upon the beard (of a full-grown man).

The rejection of the king after the people’s heart (Saul) was followed by the choice of the king after God’s heart, (David)

There were five great periods in David’s life:

  1. The shepherd at Bethlehem.
  2. The courtier at Gibeah.
  3. The outlaw in the wilderness.
  4. The King at Hebron.
  5. The King at Jerusalem.

“David was not only an individual, but also an institution.  He was not only a sovereign, but also a symbol.  His place in the historical unfolding of the redemptive purpose can hardly be exaggerated.  David fell lower than some men, but he also rose higher.  His lapses should be to us a perpetual warning, and his virtues a perpetual inspiration.

David is, in a real sense, the embodiment of all Israel’s ideals; he compassed the gamut of all her varied life and institutions.  He is a personification of the nation itself: shepherd, soldier, king, priest, prophet, musician, poet, diplomat, administrator, hero and saint; “a man after God’s own heart  albeit a sinner, sadly sinning, but greatly repenting.  In David, Israel reached the zenith of the Kingdom ideal, and so he is a type of the Messiah, greater David’s greater Son.

David’s life can be divided into four periods, which may be spoken of as

 1.   Preparation, his coming to the throne;

2.    Subjugation; his conquering from the throne;

3.    Retribution, his fleeing from the throne;

4.    Restoration, his establishment on the throne;

 His testing’s, his triumphs, his troubles and his testimonies.” By:  Scroggie

All in all, David was a grand character.  He did some things that were very wrong, but he was a most remarkable man.  He was, heart and soul, devoted to God and ways of God.  In a world of idolatry, and in a nation that was continually falling away into idolatry, David stood like a rock for God.  In every circumstance of life, he went directly to God in prayer, thanksgiving, or praise.  His greatest accomplishments were the bringing back of the Ark of the Covenant and the Tabernacle of David, the establishing of Jerusalem and Zion, and the writing of the Psalms.

Jesus Christ is our Heavenly David, the “son of David” and the greater King David, who established the New Testament order of worship.  The Davidic covenant is the Covenant of the Messiah as the ultimate political (King) and religious (Priest) ruler of the world (11 Sam. 7: 1-29).

The Lord calls people to do his work.  Those people are flawed with human weaknesses.  However, the Lord can hit straight with a crooked stick.  If we look at the life of David, and we see that he was “called”, “chosen” and “anointed” to be King of Israel by the Lord’s choice, not man.  The journey of preparation was one from humiliation to exaltation.

The Law of sowing and reaping is seen, for David’s two sons followed him in adultery, and one became a murderer.

The establishing of Jerusalem and the taking of the stronghold of Zion speaks of establishing of the Church in preparation for a permanent Temple of Living Stones (Mt. 16;18).

The Davidic covenant was fulfilled in Jesus Christ (the King-Priest) and His Kingdom and throne.

The Conquests of David over his enemies reveal the complete victory of King Jesus over all enemies.

The true King David did not fail!

Rom 11:5:  Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.”
