LIBERTY

THE LAW OF LIBERTY

June 30, 2019, the Year of Our Lord

Pastor Carolyn Sissom

2Co 3:17 - Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

At the time I was preparing this message on Saturday evening, it was unbeknownst to me that President Donald J. Trump was arranging to meet with Kim Jong Un of North Korea on Sunday morning.  Before my eyes, I saw this message played out on my television screen.  I am persuaded that when Donald J. Trump stepped into North Korea, Sunday, June 30, 2019, that the angel of the Law of Liberty also went through the “leaved gates” with a host of Angel Armies to deliver the people of North Korea from 70-years of judgment and bondage.  Donald J. Trump is the 45th president of the United States and we watched as Isa 45:1-6 played out before our eyes.

Isa 45:1 Thus saith the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut; I will go before you, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:  And I will give you the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that you may know that I, the LORD, which call you  by thy name, am the God of Israel. For Jacob my servant's sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called you by thy name: I have surnamed you, though you have not known me.  I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded you, though you have not known me: That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else

On national holidays, I study not only the Holy Words of Christ who gave us liberty, but I study the writings of our Founding Fathers who fought and stood for our God-given liberties and freedoms.

Why is this important to our generations?  The same God-given authority given to the Founding Fathers over this nation continues to be God’s covenant with this nation.  God’s authority for the destiny of nations has not been rescinded.  It is my persuasion the Hosts of Angel Armies sent to establish this nation are still equipped with the same God-given authority for which they were deployed.  Just as God’s covenant with Israel has not been rescinded, or His written covenant with the appointed destiny of nations, so our nation is set in God’s destiny of nations.

It is the Kingdom assignment of the “Church” in every generation to declare what God has decreed over this nation.  We are in a Kingdom that the world system cannot see.  It is a spiritual Kingdom.  It is not of this world.   We are to follow Christ behind the veil and declare the power of His Kingdom into the nations.

Evil and corrupt leaders have attempted to usurp our God-given rights of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.  2Pe 2:19 - While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.

Patrick Henry was a Founding Father,  but not one of the signers of The Declaration of Independence.  This is a quote from his address to the Virginia Convention:

“There is a just God who presides over the destinies of nations, and who will raise up friends to fight our battles for us.  The battle, sir, is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave.”

“It cannot be emphasized too clearly and too often that this nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians, not on religion, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ.” (Patrick Henry, Governor of Virginia)

There are two signers of the Declaration of Independence that I wish to honor today: John Adams the 2nd President of the United States and Thomas Jefferson, the 3rd President of the United States.

Not only did both men sign the declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.  Both men passed to Heaven on July 4, 1826.  It was not until 1870, that July 4th was declared a national holiday (almost 100 years after it was signed).

John Adams was president (1797-1801) and the first Vice President under George Washington.  This is an excerpt from a letter to Thomas Jefferson on June 28, 1813 (post both of their presidencies):

“The general principles, on which the Fathers achieved independence, were the only principles in which that beautiful assembly of young gentlemen could unite….And what were these general principles?  I answer, the general principles of Christianity, in which all these sects were united:  And the general principles of English and American liberty, in which all those young men united, and which had united all parties in America, sufficient to assert and maintain her independence. Now I will avow that I then believe, and now believe, that those general principles of Christianity, are as eternal and immutable, as the existence and attributes of God; and that those principles of liberty are as unalterable as human nature and our terrestrial, mundane (earthly)system.”

Thomas Jefferson was the primary draftsman of the Declaration of Independence of the United States and the nation’s first secretary of state (1789–94), its second vice president (1797–1801), and, as the third president (1801–09), the statesman responsible for the Louisiana Purchase:

“On the south banks of Washington’s Tidal Basin, Thomas Jefferson still speaks:  God who gave us life gave us liberty.  Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God?  Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that his justice cannot sleep forever.”

Jefferson’s words are a forceful and explicit warning that to remove God from this country will destroy it.” (Robert Byrd in a message to the United States Senate on June 27, 1962, just two days after the Supreme Court declared prayer in schools unconstitutional warning Congress about disastrous decisions such as this one.)

Unchecked Copy BoxGal 5:1 - Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

The greatest gift of liberty was sealed for us at the Cross of Jesus Christ through His death and resurrection.  He set us free from the accuser of the brethren, from the guilt and shame of our sins.  He delivered us from death, Hell and the grave.   Jesus Christ delivered us into the Kingdom of God out of the realm of the bondage of the world system ruled by flesh and Satan.  When we were born again, we were actually translated from the power of darkness into the kingdom of Christ Jesus. (Col. 1:13).

Jesus Christ fulfilled God’s perfect Law of Liberty.

Luke4:18 - The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

We, the Church, have been given this same authority:

Jhn 20:21 - So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.”

We are to enter into the Presence (His Glory) behind the veil and go forth to deliver creation.

Rom 8:21 - Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

The word for creature here means the sum of all that has been created.

King David touched and experienced this realm of the Law of Liberty:

Psa. 119:45 - And I will walk at liberty,
for I seek Your precepts. I will speak of Your testimonies also before kings,
And will not be ashamed.  And I will delight myself in Your commandments,
Which I love
.

The Law of Liberty is a realm of the Holy Spirit.  It is the realm of perpetual Jubilee.

The Jubilee  is prophetic of the Lord Jesus, who came to deliver the beggar, brokenhearted, bound, blind, and bruised (Isa. 61:1-3 and Lk. 4: 17-19) and to proclaim the acceptable year (Jubilee) of the Lord, which he proclaimed to be fulfilled at the beginning of His earthly ministry.

Luke 4:19-21:  “”To preach the Acceptable year of the Lord…This day is this scripture is fulfilled in your ears.”

Jas 1:25 - But whoso looks into the perfect law of liberty, and continues therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

The law of liberty is when we obey, not because we have to, but because we want to, and in obeying we find our true freedom.  Your calling is to fulfill the royal law of love as given to us in the scripture:

You must love your neighbor as yourself.”

For keeping this law is the noble way to live. But when you show prejudice you commit sin and you violate this royal law of love!  For the one who attempts to keep all of the Law of Moses but fails in just one point has become guilty of breaking the law in every respect!  For the same One who tells us, Do not commit adultery, also said, Do not Murder.  Now if you don’t commit adultery but do commit murder, you are guilty as a law-breaker. So we must both speak and act in every respect like those who are destined to be tried by the perfect law of liberty, and remember that judgment is merciless for the one who judges others without mercy.  So by showing mercy you take dominion over judgment. (Passion Translation)

Mercy triumphs over judgment.

This judgment of the law of Liberty was sealed by the Lord in Jeremiah 34:8-17:

Jer. 34:8 - This is the word that came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, after that the king Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people which were at Jerusalem, to proclaim liberty unto them;- And ye were now turned, and had done right in my sight, in proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbor; and ye had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name:  that every man should set free his male and female slave—a Hebrew man or woman—that no one should keep a Jewish brother in bondage.

Now when all the princes and all the people, who had entered into the covenant, heard that everyone should set free his male and female slaves, that no one should keep them in bondage anymore, they obeyed and let them go. But afterward they changed their minds and made the male and female slaves return, whom they had set free, and brought them into subjection as male and female slaves.

Jer. 34:17 - Therefore thus says the LORD; You have not hearkened unto me, in proclaiming liberty, every one to his brother, and every man to his neighbor: behold, I proclaim a liberty for you, saith the LORD, to the sword, to the pestilence, and to the famine; and I will make you to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.

The Law of Liberty is fundamental to the nature of God.  Every nation and people must stand in this Law of Liberty for our fellow man, to love our neighbor as our self that we will full fill the perfect Law of God.

Our laws approving abortion violate the perfect Law of Liberty.  Slavery violated he perfect Law of Liberty.  The subjugation of women violated the Law of Liberty.  Any bondage that we put on mankind which violates His free will is abuse and violates the royal law of love and the perfect Law of Liberty.

We are a blessed people that 57 men joined together in unity before God and came into unity to approve the Declaration of Independence on July 2, 1776; but it was not signed and finally approved until July 4th.

A day earlier, John Adams had written to his wife Abigail:

“The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.”

There was a great battle yet to be fought and many who signed the declaration lost their lives and some their fortunes.  Yet a free nation was born, a nation which has continually fought for the Law of Liberty for all people regardless of race, creed or gender.

May we now win this battle for the lives of the unborn.
