UNSEARCHABLE RICHES OF CHRIST

This past week, I watched a Christian movie, “Secrets of Jonathan Speers.” It is the simplicity of the Gospel of Jesus Christ through three pre-teen boys mentored by the wisdom of an elder man, yet reveals the depth of the secret of the Gospel for all ages. It is a true story. The secrets of Mr. Speers are ministered under the manifold wisdom of the Cross.
Those who press in for the unsearchable riches of Christ are often accused of neglecting the simple message of the gospel, encumbering it with revelation and the needs of the world around us.
I wept with joy at the beauty of the simplicity of the gospel presented by these three young men. I wept for joy at the Holy Spirit’s touch upon the movie.
One of my callings is to press in that the light of the gospel will shine forth into hearts until the people of God begin to penetrate the very heavens and walk in the wisdom of the Cross.
As I sought the LORD for today’s message, I prayed He stir my heart with fire that I never become complacent about preaching the Word of God. I didn’t just pray for myself. I prayed for every pastor and/or preacher seeking the LORD for today’s message. I prayed for the LORD to stir the hearts of His ministries.
We must continue to earnestly seek the LORD for help and direction… and learn His way for lifting the evil that lies heavily upon all nations.
In Eph. 3: 8-10, the Apostle Paul outlined a three-fold ministration of the gospel:
1. To preach the unsearchable riches of Christ.
2. To make all men see what is involved in the fellowship of the gospel.
3. To make known in heavenly places the wisdom of God.
Eph. 3:8: Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ.
It is the ministry of the Holy Spirit to reach into the heart of God, and take the things of Christ, and make them known unto us. For the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God (2 Co. 2:10).
So, our Christian journey takes us into the deep things of God by virtue of our hunger for more of Christ that we might know the things which are freely given to us.
3:9: And to make all see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the ages has been hidden in God who created all things through Christ Jesus.
The gospel is a message declared. The gospel is also a mystery revealed. The word “mystery” means “secret.”
I believe the LORD JESUS hears the faintest cry, the weakest cry and the cry of a hardened sinner asking for help and forgiveness. So, when I am preaching that scales must be taken off our eyes to penetrate the Heavens, I am not speaking of pseudo Christianity or being super spiritual, I am speaking of meekness and humility of hearts pressing into the heart of Jesus Christ and apprehending the manifold wisdom of the mystery of Christ.
Scales have to be removed from blinded eyes before men are able to see what is the fellowship of the mystery. The god of this world has blinded the minds of them which believe not (2 Co. 4:4). Blinded and hardened hearts have to be pierced by the sword of the Spirit before they are able to see.
But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the world unto our glory (1 Co. 2:7). …as it is written, eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for them that love him. But God has revealed them unto us by his Spirit (1 Co. 2:9).
Jesus came to reveal the Father, to make known and unveil the Jehovah God of the Old Testament. He did this as He walked in total union with the Father, saying only what the Father gave Him to speak, doing only what the Father gave Him to do. No one knows the Father unless the Son reveals Him. This is what the gospel is all about …to take away the blindness from eyes that men might come to see and know God. Paul so preached Christ in Galatia as he walked in the infirmity and weakness of his flesh, that the Spirit of God flowed forth from his life and message, and the people SAW the Christ, crucified in their very midst.
2 Co.4: 7-11: We have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.
In seeing the Christ (Jesus made manifest), the scales of darkness dropped from their eyes.
We do not proclaim the gospel merely with books and words and song. There must be a revelation, an unveiling of the Christ, by a ministration of the Spirit of God.
Eph. 3:10: To the intent that now the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places.
What Paul said before about preaching the unsearchable riches of Christ, and having fellowship in the secret of Christ, was all leading up to something else: “TO THE INTENT THAT NOW.”
God’s purpose in all this is that there might be a penetration of the wisdom of God into the heavenly realm. It is not just an earthly ministration: traveling far and wide with a message. There must be a heavenly penetration of the wisdom of God.
People say, “let’s not get so heavenly minded that we are of no earthly good.” The Devil started that saying for he knows that we are of no earthly good because we are not heavenly minded. If we are not able to penetrate the heavens with “the manifold wisdom of God.” The powers of darkness are then left undisturbed, and the powers of the Heavenly Kingdom are not alerted to what we are saying, or what we are doing.
TO THE INTENT THAT NOW! The intention of the gospel is to loose in Heaven those forces of the Kingdom that need to be loosed in the earth. Like the sons of Sceva, we might have the right formula, but rarely is there any spiritual changes accomplished because we are not known and recognized in heavenly places, and our words are not heard or obeyed. The apostle tells us that the intention of the gospel is that they wisdom of God might be revealed NOW in heavenly places, through the Church.
Again, this is not a matter of works, how often we pray, how spiritual we are, etc. It is the cry of a humble heart pressing in knowing that the gifts of God within us are not our gifts. We are hosting God’s gifts and He uses us as an instrument to speak His will and purpose on earth.
Why should we care about revealing the wisdom of God to principalities and powers in the heavens?
The wisdom of God is the wisdom of the Cross. If we are not walking in the pathway of seeking the will of God and identifying with the Cross of Christ --- we are not making any inroads into the world of darkness.
When we begin to walk in the Wisdom of the Cross, the very atmosphere of prayer will be impregnated with the will of God and the desire to do only those things that are pleasing in His sight. Then we would come into that realm of the Spirit where Jesus said, “If you abide in me and my words abide in you, you shall ask what you will, and it shall be done unto you. (Jn. 15:7). We will know how to give ourselves to the Spirit of God, that HE MIGHT THROUGH US MAKE “INTERCESSION FOR THE SAINTS ACCORDING TO THE WILL OF God.” We would learn how to pray fervent prayers in the Holy Spirit. We will experience the Holy Spirit taking over our voice and praying through us in tongues, but also in English. “Hot” prayers that are baptized with the fire of Heaven.
I desire to be better acquainted with Heaven that I may be of earthly good down here. Like Mr. Jonathan Speers, we have got to begin penetrating the heavens with the wisdom of God, if we are going to see the scales removed from men and the captive souls of men set free. That is not my conclusion, that is the Word of God.
Lord Jesus, teach us how to walk in the wisdom of the Cross.
1 Co. 1:21-24: For after that in the wisdom of God, the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom. But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumbling block, and unto the Greeks foolishness; but unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
Christ crucified becomes the POWER of God, and the WISDOM of God. The world (kosmos that leaves God out of its reckoning) is yet to discover in the Day of the LORD that this whole world system is going to come to nothing by a people who have embraced the way of the Cross.
If we truly want to be a part of that company of people who are going to invade the world of darkness and the heavenly realms with the wisdom of God and bring release to the captive souls and spirits of men… then we will become weak that we may become strong. We become fools that we may become wise; and the heroes of faith that we read about in the scriptures will no longer be our heroes, but companions of the Cross.
Then we will be able to identify with the left-handed Ehud’s, who do not fit in our society. But they will be the secret of overcoming the oppressing Eglons. We will identify with Gideon and his little band whose only weapons were a pitcher that had been broken, a lamp that had to shine, and a trumpet that had to be blown. And we will know that the sword of our warfare is nothing less than the Sword of the LORD.
But above all, we will be able to identify with our Lord Jesus, and with saints and martyrs of the Church age, who followed the Lamb in battle, and overcame the hosts of Evil “by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony.”
There are a lot of glory seekers in the church today. There are a lot of power-seekers. There are a lot of success-seekers. It will be those who are “poor in spirit” who take the Kingdom. It will be “the meek” who will “inherit the earth.”
Because he is “meek,” he has no need to defend himself; and therefore, he is considered to be weak in the eyes of men. A meek person has known the chastening and discipline of the LORD, and has proven God’s faithfulness in the fiery trials that have burned away the strength of the human heart and will, and replaced this with great confidence and faith in the One who humbled him.
