THE DAY OF HIS GLORY
THE DAY OF HIS GLORY
Sunday, August 30, 2026, the Year of Our Lord
Pastor Carolyn Sissom
“The Day of the LORD is at hand, the Day of His Glory.”
This past week, I have been hibernating in the coolness of my home, not wanting to venture out because of the oppressive heat. I wasn’t sick, just feeling the weight of the past year as we have lost some to Heaven and lost others to infirmities which have kept them home bound or in nursing facilities. Others are facing life-altering changes and need prayer and counsel. I was beating myself up that I should be attending to the LORD’s business, not lounging in my home.
I have a grace on my life, that I don’t view life from negativity. I see beyond circumstances and trust the WORD of the LORD and Blood of Jesus to get His children through all the trials of life. Yet, I was measuring my own powerlessness in the face of all the above.
Saturday morning, while praying, the Spirit of the LORD filled the den and He touched me with His Presence. He began to minister to me that He had everyone and everything taken care of. The presence of His Glory was so beautiful, it felt like I was in a field of beautiful wildflowers, even though I didn’t actually see the field of the wildflowers, but if I close my eyes, I can still see my den filled with beautiful sun flowers.
He also ministered to me about the “Church.” We are in a change of season. I shared last week a word given to me by Barbara McGraw that we have come into a “new season.”
Summary:
For the past 4+ years, (by prophetic vision and declaration) we at Eastgate Church have been building and establishing a sanctuary in a new community. The focus has been to “establish” the church (15+ miles west of Little White Church.)
Our mission is now expansion. I have known this and been decreeing expansion for a few months. “To whom are we sent?”
One of the areas of expansion is to ask different people in the church to embrace new people as they come into the church to befriend them and be a prayer partner with them. Also, I have encouraged everyone to let me know if you have a message to preach, an exhortation to give or if you want to start a bible study or prayer meeting in your community, “on the street where you live.”
Eastgate congregation is “fat” with the Word of God, personal prophecies and your own giftings of the Holy Spirit. Almost everyone is ready for ministry. When the LORD called me to start a church, I rented a hotel room and started preaching. I didn’t wait for someone to set me up or give me a platform. So, I don’t sound too self-righteous, my husband was paying my bills. That will be to his glory in Heaven. My point is, if the LORD has called you to preach, teach, or any ministry, don’t wait for provision or for someone else’s ministry. Just do it.
Back to the LORD ministering to me about the Church. The visitation was covered with His blessing and approval. But more important, He assured me that everything was covered in His glory.
Brother Geroge H. Warnock (1908-1997) in His book, “Who are you” (1989) writes that he grew up under the shadow of the Azusa Pentecostal Revival (1906-1915) and had a little understanding of what happened in those early beginnings, and the glory that was there. As he came to realize many years later, God had something for His people “beyond Pentecost. “I still cherish that hope, and I know that God will do exceeding and abundantly above all we can ask or think.” (GHW).
Some of you at Eastgate may remember I had a “Beyond the Bride” conference in 2005. At that time, I was pressing in for the Glory of “Beyond Pentecost.” Pentecost was a harvest of “firstfruits.” If the glory of Azusa was “firstfruits,” it was just a foretaste of the glory we shall know at harvest time at the Feast of Tabernacles, the Feast of Ingathering.
Frank Bartleman, a man whom the LORD used in those times wrote of the glory at Azusa.
Excerpts from “Another Wave Rolls” In by Frank Bartleman:
“The spirit of the song given from God in the beginning was like the Aeolian harp in its spontaneity and sweetness. In fact, it was the very breath of God playing on human heart strings, or human vocal chords. The notes were wonderful in sweetness, volume, and duration. In fact, they were oft-times humanly impossible. It was indeed ‘singing in the Spirit.’
We had no pope or hierarchy. We were brethren. We had no human program; the LORD Himself was leading… We did not honor men for their advantage in means or education, but rather for their God-given gifts. He set the members in the Body…
The services ran almost continuously. Seeking souls could be found under the power almost any hour of the night or day. The place was never closed nor empty. The people came to meet God …He was always there. Hence a continuous meeting. The meeting did not depend on the human leader. God’s presence became more and more wonderful. In that old building, with its low rafters and bare floors, God took strong men and women to pieces, and put them together again, for His glory. It was a tremendous overhauling process. Pride and self-assertion, self-importance and self-esteem could not survive there. The religious ego preached its own funeral sermon quickly.
…No one knew what might be coming, what God would do. All was spontaneous, ordered of the Spirit. We wanted to hear from God, through whomever He might speak. We had no respect of persons. The rich and educated were the same as the poor and ignorant, and found a much harder death to die. We only recognized God. All were equal. No flesh might glory in his presence. He could not use the self-opinionated. Those were Holy Ghost meetings, led of the LORD. It had to start in poor surroundings, to keep out the selfish, human element. All came down in humility together at His feet…
We were delivered right there from ecclesiastical hierarchism and abuse. We wanted God… We got our head under some bench in the corner in prayer, and met men only in the Spirit, no more knowing them ‘after the flesh.’
All obeyed God in meekness and humility. In honor, we preferred one another. The LORD was liable to burst through anyone. We prayed for this continually. Someone would finally get up who was anointed for the message. It might be from the back seat or from the front. It made no difference.
Someone might be speaking. Suddenly the Spirit would fall upon the congregation. God Himself would give the altar call. Men would fall all over the house, like the slain in battle, or rush for the altar en masse to seek God. The scene often resembled a forest of fallen trees.
When God spoke, we all obeyed. It seemed a fearful thing to hinder or grieve the Spirit …God was in His holy temple. It was for man to keep silent.” (F.B.)
We need to pray that God will show forth such a display and weight of His glory in our midst that we will be able to reprove the world of sin, as we ought to be doing. I do not mean much talk and pointing the finger of accusation. I mean by so living and expressing the life of Christ in the world, that the world is convicted by the presence of Christ in our lives.
I form the light, and create darkness; I make peace, and create evil. I the LORD do all these things. Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness; let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together. (Isa. 45:7-8).
There was no real reproof of sin in the earth until Jesus came on the scene. When He came as Light into the world, the lovers of darkness grew more intensely hateful against Him whose very presence angered them.
Whenever the LORD rises up on behalf of His people, and goes before them against the enemy, there is always a blending of His glory with desolation and judgment: “a day of darkness and gloominess…the morning is spread upon the mountains as God’s great people align themselves for battle. The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble; the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining. The LORD shall utter His voice before his army; for his camp is very great; for he is strong and executes His Word. (Joel 2: 2-11).
There is no darkness or evil in God. But when light is rejected, there is darkness. When love is rejected, there is hate. When peace is rejected (Prince of Peace), there is war.
President Donald J. Trump came into office as a peace-creator between nations. That peace has been rejected by Iran and now there is war. The nations think they have him in a trap with the mid-term elections coming up.
In this great conflict that we are in which rages between the forces of good ad evil, the battle is the LORD’S, and not ours. Just as He gave me comfort and peace for all that is going on in this church, the needs of the people, His vision for calling forth this church, and your individual callings, the battle is the LORD’s.
There is a condition to that and it is being in the “will of God.” This is the crux of the matter. What is God’s will in the matter? How do I know God’s will? God is honor-bound to show us His will when we present our bodies a living sacrifice and are totally committed to do His will. If I unintentionally make a mistake, God can hit straight with a crooked stick.
The hour is at hand when God will mobilize His army for a final and decisive onslaught against the gates of Hell, so that His church may come forth from the battle in total victory and triumph. The decisive battle has already been fought and won. When Jesus died on the Cross, he there and then “spoiled principalities and powers, and made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it. (Col. 2:15). There is a forthcoming conclusive battle and the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. (Ro. 16:20).
Lord, I pray for your chosen man, President Donald J. Trump that he continually finds that place in your will or knowing that He knows you are fighting for him, his family and the nations you have given to him to usher in the Prince of Peace over the demonic powers and principalities.
I pray LORD for this congregation, for the vision you have for this Church and that we will stay in your will and fulfill our calling.
